High-deductible health plans: Money Saver or Loser?

High-deductible health plans are a fast growing segment of the health insurance market. According to the consulting firm, Mercer, about 58% of the country’s largest employers offer this type of health plan to workers. Sixteen percent of those with private insurance were enrolled in a high-deductible health plan in 2011, up 2% from the year before, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute.
